BUCS Finals

BUCS Finals is a different, far scarier beast to qualifying.  The possibility of winning medals conspires with brain chemistry to render the event one of the trickiest in an archer’s calendar.  The battleground was familiar - Warwick University.  The home advantage is wasted on a university that has seen a statistically significant number of Olympic archers pass through its archery club. That said, they also happen to have a coffee shop right above the hall, so no complaints.  After a very strong qualifying, it was up to SWWU to deliver when it counted, and you did.  SWWU left the tropical climes of the Warwick sports hall with four medals; two silver and two bronze.  Róisín Mooney converted a top qualifying position into 2nd when all was said and done, with Marilyn Wong, who qualified first after particularly strong second half, finishing 3rd.  Joe Maskell nabbed 2nd, impressively halting the top qualifier in his tracks in the semi-final, who was yet to drop a set point until his match against Joe.  El Green won three sets in a row to clinch 3rd place in longbow.

I hope you enjoyed shooting at finals as much as I did refreshing Ianseo from home.  After two fantastic BUCS competitions, I’m expecting big things from BUCS Outdoors in June.
