Plymouth SWWU (W.A.18)

This weekend just gone saw Plymouth SWWU, in Plymouth.  As a result, the Vegas Shoot, in Vegas, was only the second most important tournament going on this weekend.  We may not have had the huge prize pot they do, but we could surely boast just as talented a field, as SWWU’s best faced off in the first league shoot of 2024!

Male recurve saw Dan (Bath) and Alex (Bristol) opt for triple spots, perhaps with an eye to BUCS finals next month.  This would be Alex’s undoing though, as a few misses in amongst otherwise strong shots scuppered his chance of a win, leaving Dan with a convincing lead and a strong score of 523.  It was business as usual in the female recurve category; as has become customary by now, Bristol’s Roisin Mooney took the win with the highest recurve score of the day, 538, bolstered by a particularly impressive second half to the round.

SWWU’s novices have been getting the reps in and it shows.  Exeter’s Darrel McFaweya took 1st place in male novice recurve, with 427, and Bristol’s Magdalena Kazmierczak won female novice recurve with 438, both highly respectable scores.

Over in the alternate dimension known as barebow, Marilyn Wong took the top step of the podium on home turf (474), with Bath’s Joe Maskell winning convincingly on the men’s side (463).  As well as winning the compound category, Swansea’s Dan Hickman had a foray into the barebow category, perhaps the first step in the long awaited (and much needed) barebow takeover of SWWU. 😊

Hope y’all enjoyed dusting off the competitive cobwebs, next stop is the Dingle and BUCS southern quali’s.
