SWWUper time at the SWWU Championships!

On 22nd May in Bristol, held the biggest gathering of SWWU archers since the year began, the SWWU Championships, were archers shot a WA900 to get Outdoor BUCS Qualification scores, win the SWWU champion title for their respected categories, and most importantly of all, reclaim their mascots!


Archers from Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, UWE, Bath, Cardiff and Swansea made the journey to Coombe Dingle Sports Complex, the weather could not have been more perfect, sunny all day with little wind, and better yet, the shooting was so good that everything was exactly on schedule, a rarity for a SWWU competition.


So some novices shooting, this was one of their first times shooting a long round, there was nothing but smiles and joy, and better yet, many PBs were acheived.


When all the shooting was done, and after compiling all scoresheets, we had our winners.


In the experieced male recurve, Alex Rowe (Plymouth) won 1st place with a score of 812, Aaron Cardwell (UWE) came in at 2nd with 802, and Peter Darby (Bath) took the last podium place with 776.


In experienced female recurve, Manon Bristow (Bristol) took gold with 712, Joanne Humphrerys (Cardiff) won silver not too far behind with 703, and Ashley Slatter (Cardiff) took bronze with 617.


In experienced male compound, Rob Hargreaves (Plymouth) won by default being the only archer in the category, but still scoring an impressive 831.


In experineced male longbow, Connor Blake Hurley (Swansea) took gold with 302 and Filip Jordanek (Swansea) took 2nd place with 81.


In experienced female longbow, Mathilde Ducroz (Bristol) took top podium place with 195 and Sophie Hyatt (Bristol) taking home silver with 133.


In experienced male barebow, Henry Barnett (Exeter) won 1st place with 612, followed by Oliver Thomas (Swansea) with 418, and Ben Hutchinson (Bristol) with 374.


In experienced female barebow, Hannah Buck (Swansea) took gold with 201 and Rebecca Addley (Bath) taking 2nd place with 135.


Moving onto the novices, novice male recurve saw Andrew Bacon (Plymouth) winning 1st place with 575, followed by Ryan Fleming (Swansea) with 571 and Kiaran Jarvis Down (Swansea) with 552.


In novice female recurve, Izzy Wilde (Bristol) won 1st place with 442, Rebecca Jordan (Swansea) came in 2nd with 308 and bronze went to Cat McBride (Bristol) with 271.


In novice male compound, Dante Deeming (Swansea) scored 784 to take gold, with Thomas Monaghan (UWE) coming in 2nd with 726 anf William Astley (Cardiff) taking home bronze with 630.


In novice female compound, Caitlin Willoughby (Swansea) won gold with 639.


In novice female longbow, Bethany Garland (Bristol) won gold with 20.


In novice male barebow, Joe Maskell (Bath) took home 1st place with 533, with Michael Kent (UWE) winning 2nd place with 302 and Xander Thorpe (Bristol) taking 3rd place with 225.


Finally in novice female barebow, Amy Shimled (Cardiff) won 1st place with 394, 2nd place went to Marilyn Wong (Plymouth) with 377 and 3rd place going to El Green (Plymouth) with 288.


In the overall teams, Bristol took top podium place with 2951, Cardiff came in 2nd with 2451 and Bath taking 3rd place with 2360.


In novice teams, Plymouth won 1st place with 1774, followed by Swansea with 1605 and Bristol with 1081.


In compound teams, Swansea took gold with 1423, Plymouth winning silver with 831 and UWE taking bronze with 726.


Overall, it was a very successful day of shooting, and a nice distraction from the stress of exams and coursework deadlines. A big thank you to Bristol for hosting and judging, and well done to everyone who shot and I hope you all had a safe journey home. All the results are on the SWWU website.


There is one more SWWU Leg of the year, 4th June at Exeter shooting a WA70 + H2H, bit of BUCS practice.
